Reviews

  • Four stars for Season 2?!

I can't believe all these four-star reviews for Season 2. This is some of the worst writing and directing I've ever seen on television. Did the show lose most of the creative team from Season One and hire the people from Keeping Up with the Kardashians? Each S2 episode is a mashup of bad soap opera dialog, robo-beat plot points, and poor stunt casting. You can almost hear the television executives offscreen telling the writers to "mix everything up... and make it like Gossip Girl. And let's bring in these famous people to draw interest." Ugh. It makes sense to put Bombshell to bed (eventually) and feature another new show, but a boring retread of Rent? This Slapfest of the Broadway Shows doesn't present anything interesting about either production, and instead focuses on juvenile drama. What happened to the characters? They all became much less interesting and more cardboard-cutout. S1 was flawed but had genuine promise. It seems NBC originally intended to take the completed Bombshell and launch it as an actual Broadway production, which would have been interesting. S2 completely dumps this plan, multiplies all of S1's flaws, and discards almost everything that made Smash worth watching.
  • WHY CANCEL AMAZINGNESS?

I am beyond upset that this show got cancelled when it was among some of the best tv in the recent years. I hate that when NBC ratings falter a little bit, they decide to PULL THE PLUG on it immediately. It should have been given another season because it is art. The talent on this show is like never before. It breaks my heart that it ended. And so, in response, I will buy both seasons in full.

I absolutely LOVE season 2! I like the character change and music change. It's awesome getting to see two completely different kinds of broadway shows competing with each other. I love the rivalry between the characters and also the close friendships they encounter and also the new relationships with the new characters. Season 2 has by far better music because you're not constricted to just one style. This is a MUST-WATCH show if you are into musicals/broadway!!
  • A bad sequel to a good first season

I absolutely loved season 1! It showed all of the hard work and drama that goes into making a musical successful. I just finished high school theater, and although I will never be in the same league as professional acting, I felt season 1 showed the true magic and vision that every person involved in theater experiences throughout production. But season 2? Like another reviewer said, it lost the magic of theater. The first problem was trying to squeeze two plays into one episode. There was no time to appreciate either play or its actors. Except for Tom, none of the old characters were as exciting, and the new ones were so whiny that I didn't care for them either. The plot of each episode was so choppy that I lost track of what they were trying to accomplish in the end. And above all, the show became too depressing. The main characters started to split apart, and relationships came and went within the span of a few episodes. I still have the last few episodes to watch, so maybe I'm wrong about this whole season, and maybe the first half of the season had to be bad to come together in the end. But as for now, I can see why NBC cancelled SMASH, although a part of me wishes the show had another season to fix its major problems from this season.

I absolutely love this show! But I was upset. Smash is never coming back on :( I think I might cry! I thought it was an absolutely amazing show. I was disappointed though with the finale I don't think it have enough closure. I was hoping for maybe a one year later scene or something. But I absolutely loved the last song "big finish". I am still obsessed and love to watch the reruns. I am especially glad Ivy and Derek ended up together with the baby! Aww so cute! Will miss this amazing show!!!

This was one show that I allowed myself to obsess over not only because of its music, but because of its twists, characters, and charming ways of making you hold your breathe. I don't know how many times my heart rate went up during this show. But the writing engrossed me and I was committed to most characters. I wish it didn't have to end. Thank you SMASH for many songs that will live in my heart, my iPod, and in my head. Hopefully HITLIST and BOMBSHELL will be fully realized in our world one day. I will be there first in line waiting to watch it.
  • Wow.

This is the best show I have seen in a long time, yet it is getting canceled. SMASH has the best storyline of any musical TV show I have ever seen, especially "Glee." All of the original songs are flawless, & the covers should make the original artists hear it & weep. Props to Steven Spielberg for pulling off such a masterpiece. 6/5 stars. <3 Kyle.
