Yes, this series is all of those things and more. The characters are wonderfully real and the story is riveting. The themes are noble: how the strong should protect the weak, how friendships forged in difficult circumstances bond people together tightly, and how the exploitation of the earth is unsustainable, and can erode society as much as the environment. It’s a beautiful, timeless and moving story. In a era of soulless, mass produced, hyper-saturated and manic children’s entertainment, it’s a miracle to have this series. A gem. A masterpiece.
