I truly feel that this movie deals very effectively with the subject of gays in the military. It shows how oppressive and difficult it must be. However, some of the actors appear almost like caricatures, which is the movie’s weakness. Morgan Spector saves this movie. His acting is top notch. He convinced me thoroughly of the genuineness of his character. The ending scene with Morgan Spector was so powerful that it brought me to tears. I highly recommend this movie.

The movie was interesting and touched a serious topic. I thought the acting was very good and that the characters were enjoyable. My only problem was that there wasn't enough of the two navy pilots' relationship. Their relationship escalated quickly and there wasn't much footage to show that escalation.

The movie was really inspiring but touching towards the end. This movie shows the realitiy of what some soldiers had to go through in the past.

This is such an amazing movie, so sad, kinda like Brokeback Mountain, but amazing none the less

I don't think the movie is worth the price. Maybe if it is was 99 cents. Bad acting and the sets don't look real of believable.
  • Initially laughably bad but ultimately very moving

I almost stopped watching many times during the first half of the movie. The acting seemed stilted, the dialog worse. Every cliche imaginable was used, along with hoary movie tropes (all four lead actors drive funky convertibles.) Scenes involving naval hardware were either obvious green screen or clearly staged on the Intrepid permanently docked on the Hudson River in Manhattan. A scene set in Arlington Cemetary had a stock cover shot, then close ups clearly set in a non-military cemetary. Yet as the sexual tension builds (enhanced for me by Rob Mayes' puppy-dog eyes), it turns into a wrenching tale of broken hearts and broken friendships with an increasing number of real moments as the film nears its end. Whereas I fast forwarded through some cringe-inducing scenes in the first half, I didn't miss a moment of the second half. So give it a chance. Maybe fast-forward the first half :)

Though it’s a bit slow at times, it brought back so many memories of days gone by in the military. I remember the “first” gay man I ever “knowingly” met. We were stationed at Brooks AFB in Texas, circa. 1969. So many of us thought so much of him, respected his intellect and character. He finally came out to a friend and I one night when we were at his place for dinner. He waited until he was out of the Air Force before telling us. And the two officers (lovers?) who got into a fight - one died. Kept ultra hush-hush by the AF… Opened up my eyes and awareness to the gay community - and changed me forever in how I look at another man. Maybe someday - the right one. I would like that - very much…...

The reviews are a little harsher than necessary. Given the script, acting and direction, not to mention the budget they must have had, I found this to be miles above some of the horrendous gay-themed movies I’ve seen over the years, including acting in one. The acting was first rate and though it did drag in spots, I’ve never found the military to be the epitome of excitement, so… Solid effort with enough emotion and good acting to make me want to own it…for those lazy Sundays where a glass of champagne and a slice of pizza may be the only thing I want to “do” that day.

I gave this movie 3 stars only because I like that it raises awareness for our brothers and sisters in the military who live in fear to be themselves.
