Description

With sly humor and an intensity of feeling, THE SPECTACULAR NOW creates a vivid, three-dimensional portrait of youth confronting the funny, thrilling and perilous business of modern love and adulthood. This is the tale of Sutter Keely (Miles Teller), a high school senior and effortless charmer, and of how he unexpectedly falls in love with "the good girl" Aimee Finecky (Shailene Woodley). What starts as an unlikely romance, becomes a sharp-eyed, straight-up snapshot of the heady confusion and haunting passion of youth – one that doesn’t look for tidy truths. The film was written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber ((500) DAYS OF SUMMER) and is based on the book, The Spectacular Now, by Tim Tharp. The film also features wonderful supporting turns from Brie Larson, Kyle Chandler, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Bob Odenkirk.

Absolutely love the two main actors, and they delivered great performances…but don’t waste your time. Long, drawn out, and disappointing.

  • So bad...

I stopped watching it after the first ten to fifteen minutes. The main character pressures his best friend to do the wrong thing, and is obsessed with sex. For some reason, this movie believes that a girl will solve all your problems, which is a bunch of garbage. I’m surprised Rotten Tomatoes gave this a high rating. So yeah... don’t watch this movie.

This movie was just okay. While I did admire how versatile Miles Teller is, the story and characters lacked development. Aimee was far too bland. Her character should have had more opportunity to bloom so that the viewers could understand their love connection better. The “good girl meets a bad guy and becomes a drinker” cliche was a bit disappointing. This story had several very touching moments in which Miles Teller performed wonderfully, moving me to tears, but most of the move was dull. It’s frustrating because this movie had so much potential! I loved the cinematography and the idea of these two characters falling in love but things just seemed off and unrealistic.

the whole plot is like the romance plot with will and skyler of good will hunting. damaged boy who can’t stay in a relationship, brainiac girl who’s sweet and sees past his flaws, boy ends up messing up said relationship, girl goes away to college, at the very end the boy goes to the girl at her college. the movies okay but it’s just kinda knockoff.

If I could give this movie 0 stars, I would do so in a second. I thought that I would be enjoyable with all the favorable reviews, but it was an unrealistic look into being a teenager and the storyline was ubsurd to begin with. Avoid if you can, it will save you the money in the end adn the 2 hours I'll never be able to get back in my life.
  • So much unfulfilled potential...

I can't decide if I am more surprised at how bad this movie is or by how many good reviews it has. There were several places in the film that seemed as if it was finally going to get some traction, some character or plot development. But no. And Aimee... seemingly so smart, common sense... and then drinks with the main character as if she'd been doing it for years. Drinking while driving. Just a very disappointing film that prompted me to think, "No f-ing way!" several times. Avoid!! I got it for 99 cents and that was 98 too much.
