Reviews

  • A bad movie with an unrealistic script

Why does a conservative type-A father who nags his teenage daughter about her grades passively allow a creepy, adult predator to manipulate her? I don't know either. Don't waste your time with this one.

Absolutely mesmerizing, brilliant acting by Emma Thompson. The kind of movie that has such beautiful engaging acting that you can watch it over and over eben knowing where the story is going simply because it's such a total pleasure to see such compelling acting. Richard Darlington

This was an outstanding movie that reminded me of and Audrey Hepburnesque film. The actors were superb. I am so glad I purchased this one.

Do yourself a favor and watch this movie. More of a chick flick but the story line is amazing! Has a great ending!!!

I saw how this movie was going to end the second I was introduced to the male protagonist. The predictability of the characters and plot painfully contrasted with the film's eagerness to be authentic. It may be because the subject at hand is one which is always played out in the same motions: older man woes and beguiles the very young and naive girl; a story that all of us know so well we may as well have written this script ourselves. This is one of those plots where in reality it is forthright and inspiring, however in theory- and in film- it fails to enlighten or strike an empathetic chord. All said and done, I adore Carey Mulligan and in my eyes she can do no wrong. Not to mention she fiercely and fervently owns the enriched vocabulary of her character. If nothing else, this film is at least serves as a testament to the fall of the english language in the decades following the 1960's.

Captivating. And Carey Mulligan is lit from within; the personification of effervescent intelligence and beauty and nuance and soul. I want to crawl into her world, in London, in the 60's, in love with a burgeoning life ...

*****SPOILER ALERT****** ok so i loved this movie definitely didn't expect ewans character to be married…that was sad, she dropped out of school and almost lost everything she worked so hard for to be with this man who was married and ultimately ended up leaving..i like that she had that teacher to help her out and that she eventually got back everything she lost.. great coming of age movie
