Description

What would it be like to have a fox for a friend? A 10-year-old girl who wants to know sets out to befriend a beautiful wild fox she names Lily. Bit by bit, in woods and fields blanketed by snow and carpeted by wildflowers, the girl and Lily build an extraordinary friendship as the fox leads her human companion on adventures bold, funny and even sometimes scary. Filmmaker Luc Jacquet follows his Academy Award-winning* March of the Penguins with another enduring tale of nature. A life-affirming story, astonishing vistas and warm narration by Kate Winslet (Titanic, Revolutionary Road) make The Fox and the Child a share-and-share-again family event.

I just watched this movie, and it is absolutely breathtaking. The filming and sound effects are heartrending. If not for the plot, watch it for the beauty of the filming of the French natural world. The plot, although flawed, is criticized too harshly. The director WAS going for a magical children-esque fairytale, but it was in essence, quite dark. I thought that this was enough to make it an adult film - a nostalgic one, at that. I certainly felt wistful, being an adult, yet feeling pulled back into my childhood. Plus, the plot was actually rather believable, with the main character's successes and failures. The director captured an intense understanding of animal nature (not just human nature) as well. Moreover, this does not deserve such a harsh rating - in fact, it deserves to be ranked in a high echelon of nature films.
  • was this even originally made in english?

Beautiful nature is the only thing going for this movie. Not a kid friendly movie. And it doesn't even seem like the girls lips match the english words - its like watching an overdubbed film. Also the story line in the end is troubling for little girls who would admire the fox relationship with the girl (and are they not the target audience?)

This is a slow movie but somehow my 4 and 6 year old hyperactive children were entranced. It is a beautiful tale that had me crying and laughing. My children will choose to watch this over the more exciting animated films we have collected atleast once a month.

I liked this movie first because I did not want to watch it but here is my point, the girl and the fox were best friends then the fox jumps out the girls window and it looks as if it is dead. Brings it back too the forest. Then goes to bed. Next day fox is alive and happy. Sratch happy she is MAD! In the end the final twist is that the fox hates the girl forever. I did not want to watch this movie as I said so I was happy that the FOX HATED the GIRL!
