Description

A bone-chilling nightmare from the directors of Goodnight Mommy, The Lodge follows a family who retreat to their remote winter cabin over the holidays. When the father (Richard Armitage) is forced to abruptly depart for work, he leaves his children, Aidan (IT's Jaeden Martell) and Mia (Lia McHugh) in the care of his new girlfriend, Grace (Riley Keough). Isolated and alone, a blizzard traps them inside the lodge as terrifying events summon specters from Grace's dark past.

It was not bad. It was more of a psychological thriller. If you watch this thinking it is a straight up horror movie, you will be disappointed. But if you like the latter.

I borrowed this movie from my library. It’s pretty odd. I think it gets off to a good start but gets a bit confusing after they get to the lodge and the father leaves. I had a tough time figuring out some of what happens. The plot twists were okay but nothing that special. Kind of boring in places. I do like that it doesn’t go for conventional scares. It’s okay but not one of my favorite horror movies.

This wasn’t at all what I expected. But I liked it. I don’t feel bad for the kids because they bought it upon themselves.

Prayers for Riley Keough and her family. Following the sad news of her brother Benjamin's death. I hope they get all the comfort, support, and love they need.

Who in the hell watched this and thought it was one scary, and two good? This was absolute trash from beginning to end. I’d give it no stars but that’s not an option. This rates up there with The assistant as one of the worst films of 2020. If you can sit through that paint drying is exciting. The lodge was so bad.

Here, I started writing a witty and scathing review of The Lodge, but somehow I clicked off the screen and lost it in cyberspace. That disappointed me, just like this film. It had potential, but the merits never saw the light of day - or publication, in my case. Anyway, this was a promising movie for the first 30 minutes and had me interested, and then it slowly, slowly started unraveling - not unlike our protagonist "babysitter" played by Riley Keogh. Riley has a way about her that defies explanation, in a way. Her face is plain and eerily captivating, even without a hint of makeup. On a film like this, the makeup artist certainly had to turn such a sharp visage into a crashing madwoman. The problem is, her motivation and motives were never explained. We know she came from a cult, and that alone would mess someone up for a lifetime, but her character seemed so put-together and genuinely kind-hearted. That she got the cold shoulder (and then some!) from the young boy and girl upon whom Ms. Keogh had to stay pent up in a house/lodge over a very wintry blast in the "Middle of Nowhere", of course. Plus, the film definitely wanted to rip off several movies that came before - Hereditary being the most obvious. All these little hints or "homages" if that is what the director intended were just thrown in there like the viewer could put the pieces together and say - Yep, no wonder she turned to the Dark Side. The dioramas - yeah, that's straight from Hereditary, but it was supposed to be a kind of omen for what evil was about to happen. All I could figure was that it was trying to foreshadow a lot of tagic death. It kept hinting at something that never came to be. And all of a sudden it's a morality play for heresay and paying for your sins? It was a self fulfilling prophecy - if you invoke God and Catholic principles / precepts, then of course, this would explain how you wound up a mental case? All the horror is a result from not praying and asking for forgiveness? Who comes up with this drivel? Why invoke Biblical superlatives without having a backdrop of some sinful nature - like, did this chick kill all of her fellow cultists? If that was the case, do you think she could pull of playing a motherly figure to a couple uncreative pre-teens? That is my worst complaint - the boy and girl were innocents until they up and decided to torment this nice lady who is going to marry their dad? Is that enough motivation? No, I say it's just provacation for a vacuous movie. That little girl really did a great job of sobbing on cue and being emotionally tormented... so, then, how can she turn around and torment someone as a "game"? What the hell was the game, exactly? We don't like you so we are going to misplace a few of your things? Uh, yeah, nonsense.

Compared to the other garbage their putting out as so called horror, this movie wasn’t that bad. It has a pretty good story line and is a bit psychologically scary. But definitely not supernatural scary. Even tho they try make the viewer think something supernatural may be going on. So overall definitely worth a watch.

I feel sorry for anyone that didn’t get this well made story, maybe they were drunk lol. This artful thriller is original and really gets under your skin. Great composition and acting. Dope story too.
