Description

This eerily seductive mind-bender is a dark, dreamlike descent into the depths of the unknown. Ten-year-old Nicolas (Max Brebant) lives in a remote seaside village populated only by boys his age and adult women. But when he makes a disturbing discovery beneath the ocean waves—a dead boy with a red starfish on his stomach—Nicolas begins to question everything about his existence. What are the half-remembered images he recalls, as if from another life? If the woman he lives with is not his mother, then who is she? And what awaits the boys when they are all suddenly confined to a hospital? The long-awaited new film from the acclaimed director of Innocence is awash in the haunting, otherworldly images of a nightmare.

This movie tries to be mysterious and abscure in a way that just leaves you asking what in the world did I just watch and how do I get my 2 plus hours back.

Please have a PhD in pretentiousness explain this painful exercise in self-indulgent inanity to you. I would, but I'm busy pulling the needles out of my eyes... I put them in rather than watch this a second time. Really, give it a miss. Life is short.
  • Good intrigue, but too slow

As the film is defined as a Thriller, you expect a lot to happen, well not really. It's not a bad movie though, it's relaxing just to watch it with the flow, a gloomy story that will transports you...
  • Not like what you think...

It's been explained as a subtle horror, not really for scares, but for the mind... but I don't think it reaches for that at all. Its most certainly not like The Witch (not in plot, and/or genre). It's just weird, and your not sure if it means anything more than what you see onscreen. It could be too smart of its own good, or really has no meaning at all. I know, this doesn't help, but if you watch it, you might have the same questions I might have as well.

So creepy, stuck with me for days - some of the most beautiful and original horror since early Cronenberg. Don't miss it.
