Description

Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett star in TRUTH, based on a riveting true story of one of network news’ biggest scandals. As a renowned producer and close associate of Dan Rather (Redford), Mary Mapes (Blanchett) believes she’s broken the biggest story of the 2004 election: revelations of a sitting U.S. President’s military service. But when allegations come pouring in, sources change their stories, document authenticity is questioned, and the casualties begin to mount. This dramatic thriller goes behind the scenes to expose the intricacies of journalistic integrity and what it takes to reveal the TRUTH.

Could have been so much better. Acting was good but that's all. Just could not get into it. Would give it 2 1/2 stars.

Movie should be titled #FakeNews because the narrative that CBS and the Liberal Media wanted so badly to be true was proven to be false, and therefore #FakeNews at it's finest.
  • Defenders are missing the point

The argument from defenders of this movie is continually that there was enough evidence to prove a point without using the obviously fabricated documents. No, that is not acceptable. If the evidence was there then the case should have been made on that merit, but reckless behavior and poor verification resulted in an embarrassment that this movie is trying to spin into something noble. Whether Bush attempted to circumvent service or not is still not clear despite what either side says. The methods which a trusted news organization used to push an agenda is what this should have been about, not an argument that basically says "yeah even if they pushed something that was clearly sketchy as fact we should just drop it because we still think our side was right although we can't prove it." Bush's service, and the use of the doctored papers are two different arguments. The willingness extremists ignore lies because they want their point proven and in the end that's all that matters to them aren't exclusive to Trump supporters. Liberals are just as bad. This movie makes a weak argument and a pathetic attempt to celebrate a bunch of people who got caught acting less like important journalists and more like impatient children that got caught in a situation where they were clearly in the wrong and should have known better.

Well, I don’t know why this movie got all the bad reviews that it did, but I loved it. Thought it was a great movie. But see it and you be the judge. It’s about office politics basically and having to kiss a** instead of doing your job.

People have a right to their opinion. It seems difficult to do when there was no corroboration for the story before it was originally aired. If anyone is interested in the subject, CBS has their independent investigation report online. Anyone can access it to learn more about the people involved. This should be used as an ethics lesson for future journalists.

Great acting but what would you expect from Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford?! I don’t like movies that get too mired in explaining a lot of the details, mainly because i watch movies to be entertained. not to learn a lesson. And thankfully this movie explained just enough to have it make sense. But it was a bit too full of itself and made Rather out to be almost a diety. Again, great acting, good rental, but doesn’t deserve any awards.
  • A History Lesson

I vaguely remember the whole service issue coming up for GWB but didn’t know any of the details. And now I know why. Because the details were covered up by a powerful cabal intent on keeping a puppet sitting in the white house. This movie lays out in gory detail how it all went down. It shows how the elite use false fronts, silver spoon backdoors, and outright intimidation to achieve their goals and suppress the truth. The history lesson is that once a power structure is entrenched it becomes a self-serving survive at all costs organism that will use any means to remain in power. Sadly, that is still the case today. And CBS to their endless shame, cared more about corporate image than getting to THE TRUTH. Acting is first rate but not surprisingly, academy awards were MIA for this movie.
