Description

Martina Gedeck, star of the Academy Award®-winning film The Lives of Others, brings a vivid intensity to this mysterious and riveting tale of survival set in a spectacularly beautiful Austrian mountain landscape. In a tour-de-force performance, Gedeck stars as a woman who suddenly finds herself cut off from all human contact when an invisible, unyielding wall inexplicably surrounds the countryside where she is vacationing. Accompanied by her loyal dog Lynx, she becomes immersed in a world untouched by civilization and ruled by the laws of nature. As she grapples with her bizarre circumstances, she begins an inward journey of spiritual growth and transcendence. Based on Marlen Haushofer’s eponymous classic novel, The Wall is a gorgeous, mesmerizing adventure film that raises profound questions about humanity, solitude, and our relationship to the natural world.

  • Devastating, but worth it

This is probably the most moving film I've ever watched, and it says a great deal—in an unromantic way—about the human capacity for love, against all odds. Never mind about Romeo and Juliet, this does doomed love and loneliness better than anything out there. Wonderfully acted and packs a wallop.
  • Definitely NOT for teenage boys and the ADHD crowd.

For those of you who see “sci-fi” and wait to have aliens and explosions baby-birded down your throats, look elsewhere. For those of you who enjoy contemplating existence as the result of watching a beautiful film that explores its nature, by all means rent this and watch with intent (when you’re not multi-tasking).

this isn't really a sci-fi movie. A woman finds an invisible wall one day and it's about her coping with it. Many people will find this boring. Uses Bach solo violin music for the soundtrack, but not even a good recording of it. It wasn't terrible but I would not recommend it

This is a slow pace movie that is just between a woman and her dog, and survial. I liked this movie for what it was. Sorry it didnt have bad actors, and explosisons to keep everyones attention. This isnt a Michael Bay movie. take it for what it is. Great movie, everyone else that likes ADD movies dont bother

I’m not a stranger to strange movies. And I’ll sit through the most oddly constructed piece of fiction with knowledge that a logical conclusion will wrap up all of the mystery so that the movie and story have meaning. That does not happen here. It is a movie about a woman who is trapped inside an area surrounded by an invisible wall. There is never any clue as to what the wall was for, how it came to be, what was the goal, etc. So, it’s just a movie about watching someone trapped. With no way out. And no conclusion. It was a disappointment. Don’t watch this.

So, it is a very involved film. It makes sense to me because I liked "The Carpetmakers", a German book which is very good Sci-Fi. BUT, this film is not sic-fi. It is beautiful, like life. There is no hero, no villain, no rescue to be made, just life to be lived and she does it very well. She is no heroine, just a German who lacks the passion to do anything but what she was taught in Kindergarden…plant some potatoes, hang out in the sun. Indeed, she shows what humans are like who don't know "how to live", but end up living, anyways.

The wall is a well made film. It is a tad slow, and not for those that crave constant action,or have pea brains that can not concentrate on a single idea for more than 5 seconds. To be a more attractive rent; I would recomend waiting for the price to fall one dollar. TFS
  • The opposite of a sci-fi movie

If you are one that enjoys sci-fi movies… you will HATE this movie. My only interest was what the wall is, and how the protagonist will search for a way to understand it and ultimately defeat it. AMAZINGLY… She does nothing to explore the wall, or any possible way to escape. (She never fires a shot at it, or even throws a rock at it) Instead, the entire movie is filled with first-person dialogue about planting potatoes, tending to animals and her love affair with a dog. in a very small sense, the movie is a variation upon the much better written and acted “Castaway” with Tom Hanks.

This is not sci-fi. It is not fantasy. It is about the fundamental human condition. If you do not care to see an extraordinary film with moments of true enlightenment, pass it up. It is a pity this film was not marketed for what it is, a meditation on life and a gorgeously beautiful embodiment of a literary work.
