Description

What was Mark Whitacre thinking? A rising star at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Whitacre (Matt Damon) suddenly turns whistleblower. Even as he exposes his company's multi-national price-fixing conspiracy to the FBI, Whitacre envisions himself being hailed as a hero of the common man and handed a promotion. But before all that can happen, the FBI needs evidence, so Whitacre eagerly agrees to wear a wire and carry a hidden tape recorder in his briefcase, imagining himself as a kind of de facto secret agent. Unfortunately for the FBI, their lead witness hasn't been quite so forthcoming about helping himself to the corporate coffers. Whitacre's ever-changing account frustrates the agents (Scott Bakula and Joel McHale) and threatens the case against ADM as it becomes almost impossible to decipher what is real and what is the product of Whitacre's active imagination.

This is a strange movie to rank. To put it simply, this movie doesn’t do anything to change the course of movie history but the movie is still a great watch. I really enjoyed all the people working in this movie as well as enjoy the score. Also, don’t watch the trailer. The trailer gets you too hyped.

I thought this movie was really well done, not sure what all the negative reviews are about. The movie is uniquely funny, the writing and directing are top notch, the acting is great overall and Matt Damon did a superb job playing the main character. I though this movie was quite unique and brilliant.

It’s a shame this movie didn’t do so well because I enjoyed it. I thought it was funny (not in the Hangover, stupid kind of way) and Damon did an excellent performance. I think you do have to be in the right mood for this film and it’s a little slow at times, but still worth watching.

This movie was meant for those who've been in the world for awhile and posses the maturity to receive Matt Damon's portrayal of Mark Whitacre who represents a true life story of a mater embezzler who's crime (which he pays for) benefits the country as a whole. Doubtful anyone could have pulled it off as Matt Damon does. Fun and Entertaining. Superb.
  • Trailer lies

Look, the movie has funny moments, but this is not at all a comedy. *spoilers* this is about a chronic liar who digs himself into a hole with his lies. It's very depressing to see this guy be sick and not even know it. Had the movie been anything like the trailer, I would have enjoyed it a lot more
  • Simply, way too slow.

A sometimes-funny, sometimes-sad movie. Odd subject matter for a movie. I'd say skip it and rent something else.
