Description

From the producers of Neighbors and the co-screenwriter of Crazy Rich Asians, Joy Ride stars Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Oscar® nominee Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu. The hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery centers on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey’s (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo (Sherry Cola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat (Stephanie Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.

A good movie about family and friendship that is funny, very entertaining and has moments of heart warming! A good girls night at home with a bottle of wine! Highly recommended.

Had to turn it off after 20 minutes because I couldn’t take any more. Boring, cliche, terrible acting and not the least bit funny for something that’s supposed to be a comedy. Don’t waste your time or money on this one.

  • Not Sure What To Think, But It Seems Like An OK R-rated Comedy

I’m honestly not sure what to think about “Joy Ride (2023)” despite the fact that it’s an R-rated comedy movie. I actually kinda wanted to see it when it was released in theaters, but I never got to see it mostly because I was working, at home, & also just managed to pick a different movie to watch instead. I don’t what percentage it scored on Rotten Tomatoes & Metacritic, but “Joy Ride (2023)” seems like an OK R-rated comedy movie that looks fun to watch with a seemingly mostly Asian cast. In short, I like “Joy Ride (2023)”.
  • Unsurprising Story line

The plot was predictable but I felt it was entertaining. It’s not meant to be a Hangover type movie more so Girls Trip level Id sarcasm, whit and banter. Worth the watch, waiting till streaming wouldn’t hurt.

They certainly didn’t invent the wheel with the story line, as it’s the same comedy/sappy storyline we’ve seen a thousand times, however, they did manage to laugh at themselves and their culture, and did so with good comedy and decent acting. We enjoyed it.
