Puzzled by all the bad reviews. Pugh is amazing. The lighting, the set design and the costume design are impeccable. Wasn’t expecting it to be so deep, philosophical and interesting. Very happy I watched! It’s a great discussion film.

The below the line details were amazing. The costumes, the set design and even the cinematography. The screen play was deeply flawed and often contradicted itself. I think the director fell in love with the idea of making some grand commentary on society, but forgot to think of anything that was actually relevant and intelligent. Florence Pugh was exceptional as always. The supporting cast like Chris Pine did very well. Harry Styles was absolutely miscast. From his consistently dodgy accent that they attempt to explain away to his overall awkward demeanor, he was out of place and completely overshadowed by Florence Pugh. The film was some strange mix of the Stepford wives and the matrix, and had massive plot holes. It was somehow overly long, but the ending was very rushed and anti-climatic. The director’s repeated commentary on the film’s focus on female pleasure is absolutely bizarre considering Florence’s character’s actual situation with her husband in the film (non consensual). The screenplay and overall directing of the film reads like someone who is obsessed with the feminine mystique and has a very surface level understanding of feminism. Olivia Wilde really thinks she did some thing that she absolutely did not accomplish. Not worth anyone’s time.

Not sure why this is getting a bad rap. It’s not a movie I’d watch over and over, but I thought the acting decent and the plot interesting. Its like a 2-hour Twilight Zone movie. Looking at the cover it would lead you to believe it’s a primarily a romance movie, but it’s not.

Most likely Spoilers based on some inference. I wanted to dismiss the critical reviews, and was hoping for this to be a good film, but I was wrong. The entire idea seems like a re-tread of ideas I have already seen. But, what’s worse about this movie, is that that it is missing so much up throughout. This giant idea for the story was reduced to a single experience. Although, Pugh was great in the movie, her story made the scope seem smaller. I do understand why a writer might believe this would make it feel more personal and perhaps creepy or scary, but it still leads to plot holes. The reasoning for all of it just seems so trite and simplified, and hastily thrown in during the third act. This truly was the biggest disappointment. Any viewer will be able to piece together the simplified reasoning, since it was so elementary. But, it does the entire story a disservice. Basically, I ended it feeling like I had watched an overly long Black Mirror episode, that was more shallow than most. Or that Wilde saw a season of Black Mirror and said “Ah, ha!” No bigger questions about the world we live in were brought into the film, or the choices and consequences of making these choices. It was reduced on many levels to such basic reasoning, and that is just weak.

I went into this movie very skeptic because of all the negative reviews I was hearing. After watching it, I don’t see what the fuss was about. As much as I’m not a fan of Harry Styles, he did great. I don’t see why everyone was hating on the guy. Florence Pugh was amazing as always. The film was enjoyable and mind boggling. If you’re into psychological, this is one you’ll truly enjoy. Definitely worth a watch!
