Cartoon impresario Max Fleischer was the among the first to bring the printed Superman comics to a wide audience in these fanciful 1940s shorts featuring the Man of Steel saving his true love, Lois Lane, battling mad scientists and overthrowing Nazis. Many of the slogans and attributes we ascribe to Superman today originated in this series, including the famous "Faster Than A Speeding Bullet" introduction. First to the rant by another reviewer here, Apple does not own the rights to these remastered shorts. WB does. They commissioned new remastered editions which look great and had minor changes to some of the dialogue (hence the reason why I deducted a star). It’s true these shorts are public domain so anyone who acquires a print can release their own. That does not mean you will find an HD version for free. If free is the most important thing to you then it would be wise to check for sources with a free version. If quality is most important then you should probably purchase these as they are the best audio and video these animated classics have ever seen. They aren’t perfect, but they are superior to any earlier release.
  • These classics should be FREE!

These are already under public domain and are only being spiffed up with a pretty label and updated in HD. This should be a free service, as shady Apple will eventually change the metadata and a title like this will no longer register under your purchase history; so Apple can keep leeching off of your funds. Sick of this shady tactic and I’m going to be let it known more because they do this WAY too much! To where it’s like its part of their business model. Even when you own the same title and there was an updated version in HD; you’d still be charged for the update. These companies are penny pinchers and do not care about human customers. This is also why the term, ‘customer’ was replaced with ‘consumer’. There are other outlets for entertainment to be sure…best lesson however; tangible goods over digital. Digital is a scam. Only will stop when people wise up and start deciding with their wallets.
