I love history and this show gets down to the basics and realities of our young expanding nation. What they did right and did wrong. It is the best History Channel Show I have ever seen. Period. Going to make our daughter watch for home schooling.

If this is where you get your information then you will have severe holes in your knowledge. Try reading up on Commodore Robert F. Stockton. This show tells you that Kearny lead the Army to take CA, that is completely wrong. Stockton was the Commander-In-Chief and was credited with taking CA twice.

There are some historical television series which are made with good narration but only mediocre production value. Frontirsmen is a cut above them all. The history is presented fairly and without bias in a concise clear manner. The historians give excellent insight and the series naration is of the highest level. None of the typical fluff you sometimes get- (Example: Other series I've watched fill the show with comments such as "Can you imagine how frightened these men must have been... think of the hardships... etc. Vague silly filler) This series doesn't do that. There is periodic color commentary, but facts and historical perspective are the rule here. The other major difference is the high production value. The actors are excellent and scenes are shot with a cinematic expertise that stands up to any major motion picture. The aerial shots alone are stunning. The director does not repeat the same shot a dozen times over to fill up the show time. I have thoroughly enjoyed The Men Who Built America: Frontiersmen. It is informative and extremely well produced.
