Description

From the writer-director of Napoleon Dynamite comes another quirky comedy about growing up. Benjamin (Michael Angarano), home-schooled by his eccentric mother (Jennifer Coolidge), is a loner whose passion for writing leads him on a journey as his story first gets ripped off by a legendary fantasy novelist, Ronald Chevalier (Jemaine Clement), and then is adapted into a disastrous movie by the small town's most prolific homespun filmmaker.

This is the best movie ever! But I feel it's a little inappropriate for my daughter because in the movie the mother gets hit in the breast and I don't want my daughter to see that.

Timeless in a Nacho Libre sort of way. Don't watch this movie if you can't handle super subtle senseless humor.
  • Not for everyone but I loved it

Much like Hess's other movies - it features realistic looking characters being ridiculous. A somewhat stronger story line than ND and very funny through the whole film. Watch the trailer - the move is just like the trailer. If you liked the other Hess films I'd guess you'd like this one - although the style is similar this movie is original. You might suspect it's like Napoleon D because of the teenage boy main character but they are different stories (both very enjoyable).

This film has great individual performances for every character. Hollywood critics just don't seem to get small-town America. This a great David and Goliath type story. I laughed out loud regularly. Having lived in rural America, when I was young, this brought back tons of memories through these characters. I could relate to the Kid's imagination, the Mom's outdated drive for success and the independent film maker brought it all together. Indie film lovers should get a good kick out of this one!!!

I Don't know why critics hate this movie. This is the best film I ever saw. Jared Hess is an icon, a true hero. The only person more talented then him is George Lucas. I suggest everyone watch this movie, at least 50 times.

I don't think most people appreciate this movie because it's different, unusual, and pretty innocent! I thought it was a charming story, with some love and laughter mixed in. I love it!
