If you expected to get your history from Hollywood you are deceving yourself. Elizabeth was not as innocent as the movie promoted, she was a brutal dictator. Elizabeth forced adheracne to the Proestant Faith to create her own Golden Age.

Cate Blanchett's Elizabeth is Flawless. She captures not only the fragile femininity that lied beneath the porcelain veneer of Elizabeth, but also the strength and tenacity that she inherited from both Henry and Anne. Shekar Kapur excelled with this movie and its sequel, Elizabeth, The Golden Age.

It is unbelievable that she (Cate) did not win the award and it was given to Gwenyth Paltrow for Shakespeare in Love. This movie is so much more than that. It's empowering and innovative. There is no greater romance than that of a woman and her position in the world. Someday this story along with this movie will be compared to Columbus and Da Vinci. She is the woman who made being a woman so much more. Cate was the perfect woman for this role, like Meryl in Sophies Choice; this will be her legacy. Watch this movie. You will love this movie! Besides all the history and the drama this movie is about Elizabeth, the woman, not just the queen. If you're a woman, this movie will make you want become so much more than who you already are. And if you are a man then it will change your hearts course and redefine what the ultimate woman of today is.

Cate Blanchett is so compelling, even after repeated viewings of this great movie over the years, its always like seeing for the first time and saying Wow! and it has to be said that one of the greatest Oscar (Academy Award) crimes was Cate Blanchett losing to Gyneth Paltrow for Best Actress
  • Interesting story of love, power, lack of trust and loyalty

Great acting, incredible costumes, elaborate authentic setting, complex storyline/relationships, missing information, abrupt ending. Would love to see a sequel with the rest of her reign but then again, its this magnification on her incrediblly rapid "thrown in the frying pan" rise to leadership from none that makes it tick, I'd guess. I can see why it won a lot of different awards - well done on many fronts
