This is an excellent sequel with superb acting by Colin Clive and Boris Karloff. Elsa Lancaster is terrific as the bewildered bride who wants no part of her husband. Una O’Connor is as always the resident screamer as she was in The Invisible Man. The special effects were awesome especially since the film was made in the 1930’s. I really enjoy the old, classic horror films so much more than the gory bloodbaths made today. 🧟‍♂️

Boris Karloff's dialogue in Bride of Frankenstein was the greatest thing James Whale made him do. Elsa Lanchester did a brilliant job portraying the monster's Mate.

In 1931, the first film was a piece of art. Amazing movie. It's full entertainment. The Bride of Frankenstein was outstanding which earns a 5⭐️ rating. The movie is thrilling.

This is simply the best of the Universal horror films. The Monster speaks and The Bride is beautiful. This film has a ton of hidden symbolism that reflects Whale's (the director) personality. This sequel surpasses the original film in many ways.

I noticed a couple of negative reviews of this movie. It is considered by film critics and historians and just about everyone who knows anything about movies to be the king gem of the horror genre. If you are expecting mind-numbing special effects ala 'Die Hard', you will be disappointed. But that doesn't mean the movie is bad. Remember this was made in 1935. It is considered superior to the original, 'Frankenstein 1931', and justifiably so. Very few movie franchise's can say that. The atmosphere is perfect, the acting is great, the writing is superb. The one thing I originally disliked about it is that it is the the only time in the Universal Frankenstein franchise that the monster actually talked, but having watched it numerous times over the years, Boris Karloff's amazing performance won me over. This is Boris Karloff at his best. This is James Whale at his best. This is Collin Clive at his best. This is Elsa Lancaster at her best. But as great as they all are, what really makes this move for me is the performance of Ernest Thesiger as Doctor Pretorius. I dare someone to find me a spookier and more evil mad scientist anywhere. This movie is as good as they make 'em.

To classify The Bride of Frankenstein as horror is ridiculous. I prefer to call it a fairy tale of sorts. It surpasses the original which I found rather dull and is in that very rarified category (such as Godfather part 2) which is better than the original. The performance by Boris Karloff is magnificent and heart breaking. The moment when the monster is rejected by "the bride" never fails to make me tear up and he utters the line: "She hate me...like others." In the Mary Shelley novel the creation does want a companion but promises that they would live a solitary life up in some mountain and never bother anyone if allowed to live in peace, but this would be and the creature is doomed to a life of solitude and loneliness. Thus far no one has rearlly brought the Mary Shelley novel to life and people would be surprised how radically different the creature is in the novel as opposed to the multitude of movies made. There is only a flleeting resemblance to the novel and remove all of the deeper philosophical aspects of the novel. James Whale brought a poignant humaity to the creaure that was missing in the first as well a few eccentric charactures like the bizarre Dr. Pretorius who has a memorable first encounter with the creature in a cemetary catacomb. After seducing the creature with wine and a cigar he asks if he knows who Frankenstein was and who he is. The creature responds: "Yes, I know. Made me from dead.....I love dead.....hate living." The black and white photography is stunning as well as the creepy music. It is a magnificent film that illustrates what sort of little subversive elements a clever director can slip into a film disguised beneath the context of a "horror movie". A good follow up film to watch is Gods and Monsters which is a fictional look at the life of James Whale as a gay man in the thirties.

I have always been a fan of the Universal Studios Monsters and I have to say without a doubt that this is the greatest horror film ever made!!!! Whoever says it's stupid does NOT know what good movies are. But also remember this is a 1935 movie so it doesn't have the best effects. Other than that this is an AWESOME movie!!!!!! A+++++++++++!!!!!!!!!!!!

This movie is over-rated. I will also say this movie had lots of potential. Unfortunately the comic relief ruined it. Another bad part was a guy who created midgets or elves. This movie had lots of potential. However the first movie "Frankenstein" was better because it had a more somber/serious tone.

Ah, a refreshing film from Universal. We get to see the sequel to the famous Frankenstein film (if you're uploading movies from Universal, can you upload this one?) and surprisingly enough, it felt better than the original. We even get the age old question that has appeared in the question but never realized....what if the monster got a bride? This is a good one. Keep up the good work Apple! We got Dracula, Wolf Man, The Mummy, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon to choose from in the library. Apple, can you keep up the good work by adding Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man, House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula, and Revenge of the Creature? Thanks.
