Description

Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg star in Martin Scorsese's new crime drama "The Departed." "The Departed" is set in South Boston where the state police force is waging an all-out war to take down the city's top organized crime ring. The key is to end the reign of powerful mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) from the inside. A young rookie, Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is assigned to infiltrate Costello's mob. While Billy is working to gain Costello's trust, another young cop, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) is among a handful of elite officers whose mission is to bring Costello down. But what his superiors don't know is that Colin is working for Costello, keeping the crime-boss one step ahead of the police. Each man becomes deeply consumed by his double life, gathering information about the plans and counter-plans of the operation he has penetrated. But when it becomes clear to both the gangsters and the police that they have a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin find themselves in constant danger of being caught and each must race to uncover the identity of the other man in time to save himself.

It remains the best Boston action movie ever. Watching it the 3rd time but first in over 10 years it’s interesting how many movies it’s influenced since. Martin and Jack of course slay but this is a rare last chance to see LDC, Marky Mark and Kimmel’s frenemy Damon all in one film while they were still young. Not much more one can say about this masterpiece without writing an essay. Cheap rental.
  • Soulless Remake

This is a remake of the Korean film Infernal Affairs and that movie is fantastic. This felt soulless compared to IA. So go watch the original.
  • Typical Scorsese sour note movie.

Typical of so many Scorsese movies, you become attached to the protagonist and then, pessimist and cynic that he is, the director betrays you and spits in your drink. If you like a satisfying ending, don't watch Scorsese films.

The original film "Infernal Affairs" had clever and sometimes subtle sly moments and earned intensity. Both characters were heroes, and in a way they were both villains. This version is a typical over the top remake that does away with all subtlety and erases any sense of moral conflict. We get Nicholson chewing scenery, painfully unfunny ball busting between Baldwin and Wahlberg and simplistic theatrics. And one of the most laughable blunt final shots in big budget film history. There are no characters to really relate to or sympathize with as DiCaprio (the protagonist) whines out so much of his dialogue. Some will enjoy the brutal well shot violence and basic premise (again, taken from another film and not an invention of the screenwriter here) so there are plenty that will like it a lot. But it is a pale comparison to the ingenious original.

The Departed is really violent and disturbing see it with a friend or a high person because this crime movie is imaginary and has great music, great actors like Leonardo Dicaprio, Jack Nicolson, Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg your up for a nasty ride.

Please update this special-effects heavy movie with 4K HDR support — the image quality looks exceptionally poor on my 4K HDR TV.

This is a jumbled up mess. Please let go of the fake accents everyone. You can't pull it off. This movie and it's pathetic accents made me uneasy the whole time. As for the storyline - what a pile of twisted metal. Rough.

was absoltely pointless in all aspects--there was so much violence and swearing that didn't benefit the story at all. it was boring too-sure, the first time a guy gets shot, its somewhat interesting, but the 20th time around, its just repetative and dull
