Description

Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) is a tough ex-cop turned bounty hunter. Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Charles Grodin) is a sensitive accountant who embezzled $15 million from the Mob, gave it to charity and then jumped bail. Jack's in for a cool $100,000 if he can deliver The Duke from New York to L.A. on time. And alive. Sounds like just another Midnight Run (a piece of cake in bounty hunter slang), but it turns into a cross-country chase. The FBI is after The Duke to testify - the Mob is after him for revenge - and Walsh is after him to just shut up. If someone else doesn't do the job, the two unlikely partners may end up killing each other in this hilarious, action-filled blockbuster from producer-director Martin Brest (Beverly Hills Cop).

First time seeing this. Well done. Great cast. DeNiro and Charles Grodin. Directed by Martin Brest. Funny and yet emotional too. Some action. Great movie.

One of my favorite movies of all time. The chemistry between Marvin, the Duke, and John Walsh is funny. As is that of the two Italian goons that work for Cerano. This movie is why I love Robert De Nero.

I enjoyed every bit of it! I believe this movie set the trend for the subgroup road trip action bounty hunter type comedy. Awesome film through and through. It weaves comedy, drama, and action really well together. Highly recommend!

A definite must see film! Charles Grodin and Robert De Niro have marvelous chemistry, and prove to be both hilarious and refreshingly human for the whole film. The parodies on the mob and such are spot on, and every character is delightful (I love Marvin). Has infinite rewatch value, too!
  • Effortlessly funny and touching at the same time

One of the greatest buddy buddy/mob/action comedies ever! Universal is notorious for their full-screeen back catalog, but this one fills my TV screen. I assume it's widescreen and the notes have not been updated.
  • A true classic.

One of my favorites. De Niro is at his best, and Dennis Farina will never be forgotten.
  • Ranks with the Best Comedies of all Time!

Robert DeNiro is probably the most adaptable actor of all time, going from drama to horror to comedy. He plays his character perfectly in Midnight Run and is a perfect partern with Charles Grodin who plays DeNiro's polar opposite in this superbly acted and written action-comedy! Midnight Run is funny, non-stop action with whip-like dialogue writers of today can't seem to understand. But the movie is also heart warming and, with the exception of the generous use of the "f-word", is refreshingly free of crudeness. Again, qualities that movies of today lack ad nauseum.
  • A Real “Killer” B Movie (one of 237!)

This review is an excerpt from my book “Killer B’s: The 237 Best Movies On Video You’ve (Probably) Never Seen,” which is available as an ebook on iBooks. If you enjoy this review, there are 236 more like it in the book (plus a whole lot more). Check it out! Midnight Run: Like “48 HRS.” or “Beverly Hills Cop,” the contentious relationship between the two central characters is central to the story. And these two guys are mirror images of one another. Jack is rabidly sarcastic; Jon, the voice of serene reason. Jack is overtly obnoxious; Jon, covertly obnoxious, full of disdain for Jack’s lack of responsibility in all areas of his life. Yet this “Odd Couple” opposition is only the surface of the mirror: Beneath their opposing styles, they discover a shared integrity and history. On their crosscountry jaunt they bicker, question, confess, commiserate, and eventually develop a begrudging respect for one another—all the while engaged in a cat-and-mouse game of capture and attempted escape. Grodin holds his own against DeNiro (no easy feat) and the two have a real chemistry. It’s a canny, deftly directed action flick with a sharp script, expert chase scenes, smart plot twists and delightful dialog—as well as Farina as a Mafia don with the most creative threats in cinema history.
  • A handsome DeNiro?

Man,this is back when big stars could really act. Funny, a great time in the movies! Back when a DeNiro movie meant something.
