Description

Oscar®-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele reimagines the summer movie with Nope, an expansive pop epic of uncanny science fiction. Following their father's shocking death, Hollywood animal wrangler OJ (Daniel Kaluuya) and his sister Emerald (Keke Palmer) begin observing unexplained phenomena on their vast Southern California ranch that leads them down an obsessive rabbit hole as they plot attempts to capture the mystery on camera. Along with a former child star turned family theme park ringmaster (Steven Yeun) who neighbors the siblings, the pair's efforts to chase the spectacle soon bring terrifying consequences and unimaginable horror. The result is a complex social thriller that unpacks the seeds of violence, risk and opportunism that are inseparable from the romanticized history of the American West and from show business itself.

Absolutely stunning cinematography. Plot was a bit simple, but loved the running theme of some animals not meant 2 b/can’t b trained, territoriality, & apex predators. The only issues I had were some creature fx looked like an out of focus bouncy house that kids jump in @ parties & parks, & I saw literally dozens of film influences scattered thru-out, so much so that it almost seemed a string of films pieced 2gether 2 make this 1 film. There’s literally everything from the obvious, Close Encounters, E.T. (a flip side of it) Faces of Death, Signs, & Fire in the Sky. & I didn’t get the logic behind the creature sparing some lives & not others. The reasoning makes NO sense after mirror motorcycle TMZ guy. Stunning visuals & very good acting make this 1 very above average.

I’m a huge fan of Jordan Peele, but this movie sucked. The writing was terrible. Production quality was good as with all Jordans projects, but this movie just really sucked. I think Jordan is a descent Director, a very good actor, and a comedy genius, but he is not a good writer of feature films. He can write great comedy sketches all day long, but he cannot write feature films.

You need to be with it to get with it. Like the rest of Peele’s films, it’s the small details that lead to bigger things, you just need to pay attention. Only people who need things spelled out for them are giving this 3 or less stars. Just like any good book, certain things should be left for our minds to linger with and create (filling in those gaps that authors and writers strive for readers and viewers to play with). This film had me intrigued every frame of the way. The ending is left up to us and our perspectives. “NOPE” is another achieved rabbit hole Peele creates that ties with history you didn’t know about and anomalies you’ve grown up hearing about.

This movie is 2 hours long and goes absolutely nowhere. Save your time and money. If I could give it no stars i would.

NOPE is right. I feel like I waisted 2 hours of my life. It was just Boring, Weird, and absolutely a waist of money. I kept waiting for something meaningful to happen to justify the fact I kept watching. Don’t waist your time or money. Booooooooooooo to the snooze fest
